This week, I’ve had the opportunity to try out a delicious product, Vive! Following my Vive Shake review, you’ll find details about the incredible giveaway!
If you haven’t heard about Vive!, you’re in for a treat. It’s a flavored powder that the creator designed to help with weight loss (he lost over 200 pounds with this product – you can read his amazing story here). Because Wally Bishop is also an avid cyclist, he designed his product with the endurance athlete in mind.
My goal for this week was to put Vive! to the test, see how it tasted and how it affected my training. Vive! graciously provided me with a container of each flavor (chocolate and energy spice) along with a Blender Bottle in exchange for an honest review of the product. They also generously gave me permission to give away a container and a bottle to the winner of the giveaway!
Vive! provides something it calls “base layer nutrition.” Much like building a base in your training, building a base in your nutrition can help improve performance. When consumed on a regular basis, Vive! supports an athlete’s body by providing vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, enzymes, and essential fatty acids.
As you can see from the ingredient list, Vive! uses fruits, vegetables, and other real foods to provide you with the nutrition you need to perform at your best. Nutrients from real foods are typically much easier for the body to absorb than synthetic nutrients. That’s one of my favorite things about this product!
Also of note (particularly for those of you who have allergies or sensitivities), Vive! contains no artificial ingredients and is GMO free and gluten free.
Vive! recommends that athletes drink two shakes a day, one in the morning and one as a post-workout recovery drink. From the nutrition information, you can see that Vive! has a mix of carbs and protein, which has been shown to improve your muscles’ ability to recover from tough workouts. Additionally, the antioxidants in Vive! help reverse some of the damage from free radicals that goes along with exercise.
Vive! is formulated to help balance blood sugar, helping your body release glucose steadily over a long period of time. This supposedly gives you sustained energy, so you can perform at a high level without hitting the proverbial wall.
Flavor: I really liked both the chocolate and the energy spice flavors. Chocolate Vive! has an actual chocolate taste: it’s not artificial like some mixes. The Energy Spice is very similar to chai. Delicious!
Versatility: One of the things I like best about Vive! is its versatility. I tried both flavors simply mixed with water. I tried them both mixed with almond milk (even better than water!). I made smoothies with the mixes. The Energy Spice is great in a smoothie with pumpkin puree and greens; while the chocolate was awesome with some banana and peanut butter. I even baked bars with the Vive! There’s a section on the company’s website with even more delicious recipes.
Convenience: For those mornings when I’m rushing to get out the door in time, I loved how convenient it was to mix up a simple shake in the Blender Bottle. This bottle comes with a little wire ball. When you shake the bottle, the ball ensures that all the powder gets mixed into the liquid. Just a note – always add the liquid to the bottle first! If you put the powder in first, there will still be some stuck to the bottom.
If you don’t want to drink your Vive! right away, put the powder in the little container that fits onto the bottom of the bottle. When you’re ready to enjoy the Vive!, mix up your shake. It’s recommended to drink the shake as soon as you mix it.
Performance: I drank Vive! every morning this week, and it helped keep me fueled for my morning activities. I tried Vive! before some workouts, including an hour and a half trainer ride. During this long ride, I didn’t have any other nutrition, and the Vive! kept me adequately fueled. I also tried the Vive! after a 10 mile run. Normally after a long run, I’ll want to eat all the food. Not this time! I drank the Vive! and didn’t feel the need to snack on anything else until dinner (just a note – I only waited an hour before dinner). Also, my legs felt great the day after this run – no residual soreness at all.
As a side note, Vive! is not recommended for use DURING a workout. Also, it doesn’t contain any electrolytes, so you’ll still need to drink your Nuun or whatever electrolyte drink you typically use.
Price: Vive! is very reasonably priced: it’s $39.95 for a container. This works out to a per-shake price of $2.67. That’s a lot less than some of the other shakes on the market.
I’ve racked my brain trying to come up with some drawbacks, and I honestly can’t think of any! I will definitely be resupplying myself with more of this great product.
Vive! has generously allowed me to give a container of Vive! (winner can chose which flavor he/she wants) and a Blender Bottle to the winner of the giveaway!
